Two days before the trip to Ulster in the Champions Cup, Ugo Mola, the manager of Stade Toulousain, returned to the news from Antoine Dupont. The international scrum half took his first steps with the French rugby sevens team last week during training in Marcoussis. The start of a new adventure which will take him to the Olympic Games in Paris.
“There are specialists (in rugby sevens), there are very good players in the world and in France,” underlined Mola. But I don’t see how one of the most gifted players of his generation could not adapt. When the guys left as a group of 7 a few years ago, we didn’t do as much. Obviously, now that Antoine is going to get there, everything will be scrutinized. When he’s going to be dropped, we’re going to talk about it, when he’s going to drop a guy, we’re going to talk about it, when he’s going to miss a tackle, we’re going to talk about it (…) When we learn that there’s almost no more more people to see him training than for press conferences for the Six Nations Tournament or returning from the World Cup, it’s almost scary. »

Dupont will skip the next Six Nations Tournament in order to familiarize himself with the specificities of the 7 by participating in two stages of the world circuit of the specialty, in Vancouver (February 23-25) and Los Angeles (March 2-3 ). “We will do everything to support him, put him in the best possible position so that he continues to attract the interest of the media and crowds and highlight this sport which needs it,” concluded Mola.
