Viktor Axelsen Withdraws from India Open Due to Illness

When the India Open gets underway, it will be without Viktor Axelsen.

The Danish star states on his social media that he has chosen to cancel.

‘Hi every one. After my match on Saturday I have been lying sick in my bed. After speaking with the doctors in Malaysia, it has been recommended that I have further examinations,’ he writes in a story.

‘This means that unfortunately I cannot travel and cannot be at the India Open this year. It’s quite disappointing, as it’s a tournament where I’ve loved playing in front of the Indian fans,’ says the Dane.

Viktor Axelsen has previously won the India Open twice – in 2017 and 2019.

He was most recently in action at the Malayia Open, where the semi-final was the final stop for Axelsen, who lost to Shi Yuqi in three sets.

After the match, he told TV 2 that he struggled with some back problems along the way.

The final was, however, with Danish participation, as Anders Antonsen was there – he went all the way and won the tournament.
