BADMINTON – One more match to go for the first badminton team of ZBC. On Saturday the last home game was a draw (4-4) against Meteoor. This meant that the title in the fourth division disappeared from view. “It’s a shame, because we have the ambition to play higher up,” said player and chairman Miranda de Haan.

Amor (Alles Met Ons Racket) 2 from Groningen is likely to become champion and promote. “They were relegated last year. We won against them this competition and drew against them once. In the end we can be satisfied, although there could have been a little more,” said the 38-year-old from Zwolle, who has been playing badminton since her youth.

“In January I will have been playing competition for 25 years, I am now in this team for the fourth season. I played competition elsewhere for a while, but I always continued to train at ZBC. I was also a youth coach, am still competition leader and have been official chairman since September.”
Due to a sad event in the board, the tasks had to be redistributed. “I would actually take care of the technical matters together with teammate Luuk Bosma. So that turned out a bit differently.”
The Zwolle Badminton Club (ZBC) now has almost 200 members, including seven youth teams, and has been around for just over 70 years. “We are an association that wants to play at the highest possible level, but we certainly also offer space for recreational players. They can both play and train with us. I think we all have a nice group together and we are still growing. We really want to offer our members something beautiful and I am convinced that we will do just that. Because when I enter the ZBC hall and I see that the entire hall is full of seniors and youth members playing, I really enjoy it.”

De Haan also recognizes that badminton is a small sport. The question is whether there is room for two associations in Zwolle, because in addition to ZBC, there is also the merger club BC De Blauwvinger. “I definitely think we can coexist. We’ll both be fine. Only if you look at a higher and better level of competition, I think you can get much more out of it together.”
