Mats Hummels clearly couldn’t come to terms with the referees’ decision, because after the match he published an entry in which he recalled another situation when he also felt cheated. “Twitter is waiting for it. Twitter is getting it. What a joke with the penalty against us. Again! I can’t believe that there can be decisions like today or against Chelsea or PSG with VAR,” he wrote on the X website.
Other experts agreed with him and the judge. “Hummels clearly hits the ball first, he does not make an uncontrolled slide – it is natural contact after playing the ball. A farce… and at the level of the Champions League,” wrote Manuel Graefe, a former FIFA referee.
