Alpine skiing: Tactics are not an option for Feller in the slalom

Feller has 164 points ahead of the German Linus Straßer in the slalom and 205 points ahead of the Swiss Daniel Yule. “Like Chamonix, it’s a very, very flat slope. “It really depends on how it is set,” said the Tyrolean. “There’s no such thing as tactics on such terrain anyway. Therefore, I will approach it with focus and full attack. There’s nothing else you can do.”

The findings from the giant slalom on Saturday were of course helpful for the set-up. “But you also saw that there are more waves inside than in recent years. Because it is so flat, it will definitely be a close race, everyone will be pushing,” said the 31-year-old.

For him, as the most consistent slalom rider of the winter, his “dreams and goals” are also coming true, as he said. “I worked long and hard on it. It’s nice when they come true in a certain respect.” But there are still races left and so nothing has been decided. “Look ahead and refocus on each race,” is the motto.

Matt wants to “get the most out of it”

Michael Matt got a “very casual first impression” from his first trip to Bansko. The third from Gurgl and seventh from Wengen would like to get “the maximum” out of this season in order to get a good starting position for next year.

“When everything comes together, you have to take the opportunity and strike,” said Matt. Also at the start for the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) are Adelboden third and Chamonix fifth Dominik Raschner, Fabio Gstrein, Adrian Pertl, Johannes Strolz and Joshua Sturm.

Head coach is confident

“Feller and Raschner have the greatest speed and it is realistic that they will be on the podium or fight for victory. But Strolz and Matt can also surprise and are slowly creeping up on us,” said head coach Marko Pfeifer. “It could be that one of the guys who was beaten a little less than their value is also right at the front.”

20-year-old Jakob Greber is making his World Cup debut. “There will definitely be nerves on Sunday, that’s normal. I think it’s cool that I’m getting a chance,” said the Vorarlberg native. Father Christian Greber was a speed driver and supported his son as a serviceman in Bulgaria.
