Apulian defeat
A third quarter to forget condemns Angri Pallacanestro to a knockout in Corato (88-81). Coach Francesco Chiavazzo’s men did not fail at PalaLosito, but paid for a soft return from the long break. The small advantage created after a difficult start was nullified. Then in the finale, this time, the feat fails. But we can start again from the usual desire to never give up and from a group capable of getting back up despite all the adversities encountered. Izzo’s 20 points were not enough, followed by 16 by captain Iannicelli and 15 by a good Granata. Double figures also for Jelic (13), important during the first half.

Shocking start for Angri, who suffers a 10-0 break from the home team, driven by baskets from Tomcic, Aullier and Valuet. The hosts continue to score and move up to +13 (19-6) with Vaulet. At the end, for the guests, a very hot Jelic takes center stage (11 points out of 15 total scored) who burns the opponent’s net several times. Then it’s Bonanni who scores the 21-15 which leads to the second period. The Condors begin to get going and close to -4 (25-21) with bombs from Izzo and Iannicelli. Taddeo serves Ruggiero and brings the travelers closer and closer (27-25). Izzo puts the icing on the cake with the overtaking torpedo (27-28). So Corato is forced to time out. Upon returning, Iannicelli immediately responds to Allier’s three-pointer (30-31). Angri takes control of the inertia and extends with Taddeo and Jelic (30-35). But Birra shortens for (33-35). Taddeo draws basketball and is accompanied by a precise Iannicelli who pierces the retina for the +6 (38-44) with which we go to the break.
Upon returning, the hosts put their foot down on the accelerator and caught the traveling team at 47 all with Allier and Tomcic. He himself scores the counter-overtaking (47-49). Corato takes the stage and scores the 54-48 basket with Bellato, who forces coach Chiavazzo to stop the bleeding. But the music doesn’t change, with the locals still hitting the target with Tomcic for +10 (58-48). The basket becomes very small for the Condors, who don’t get unblocked. It’s a 2/2 of Granata that moves the Angrese score (60-50). Sgarlato enters the triple festival, scoring +15 (66-51). Bellato is still a 6.75 point winner and brings his lead to 69-53 at the last mini-interval. In the fourth period it was Vaulet who found the back of the net for 72-56. Izzo and Iannicelli try to restore rhythm to Angri for -10 (72-62). Granata is ready in the paint, but Birra cancels everything (83-71). Tomcic’s dunk for 88-76 would close the score. But a triple from Izzo and an unsportsmanlike shot from Granata bring the Condors back to -7 (88-81) with 49” to play. Angri, this time, gets stuck at the best moment and the race effectively ends here.
Bitter knockout, but it doesn’t hurt, for the purposes of the standings, for Angri Pallacanestro who maintain the difference in baskets (in the first leg it was +48) against Corato.
