Antich to García-Castellón: “Omnium is also Tsunami!”

The judicialization of the Process

The president of Omnium calls the magistrate “indecent” and warns him that they will do it again

BarcelonaThe president of Òmnium, Xavier Antich, has harshly charged against the judge of the National Court Manuel García-Castellón for his offensive to include the cause of Tsunami as terrorism. “They can accuse 11 people, but Tsunami was all of us. Omnium too! Like hundreds of organizations and thousands and thousands of people in this country”, said the president of the organization during his speech at the end of the general assembly of Òmnium, which took place this Saturday at the Big Center in Barcelona.

The top leader of the association has taken out all the artillery against the judge to include in the case Oleguer Serra, former director general with Jordi Cuixart and today strategic manager of the entity: “This indecent judge who has prevented the PP from investigating corruption and the corruption of Borbó has dared to charge him with terrorism and accuse him of terrorism: this is accusing Òmnium of terrorism”, he denounced.

An accusation that Antich interprets as a new attempt by the Spanish judiciary to put the entity it presides in the spotlight. In this sense, he emphasized that in the interlocutory that García-Castellón made on January 26, he blamed Tsunami for the protest that Òmnium, the ANC and the CDR called against the visit that Felipe VI made to the monastery of Poblet on July 2020. “The wolf has done nothing more than show its paw. This judge has dared to point out Omnium in his case for terrorism, threatening to investigate us”, he criticized. The possible investigation is not scary, however, the board of directors and Antich have made it clear: “Not even the Franco dictatorship, which made Òmnium illegal, could finish us off! Not even by locking up Jordi Cuixart, our president, in prison can finish us off!”

Neither the Franco dictatorship nor the imprisonment of Jordi Cuixart ended us”

Xavier Antich

Antich has also not overlooked the latest setback that García-Castellón has suffered in Switzerland, who has refused to collaborate due to the lack of evidence against the general secretary of ERC, Marta Rovira. “They can invent the fantasies they want, but the international ridicule they are making is, by now, monumental.”

In a fierce defense of the mobilization and quoting the most famous phrase of his predecessor, Antich has warned the magistrate that they will do it again. “If it’s still not clear, we’re telling you now: we’ll do what we did again, and as many times as necessary! And it’s not terrorism: it’s called the right to protest,” he said. “Let García-Castellón and all the judges and prosecutors who are part of a rotten judiciary know it: we have not stopped preparing to do it again, as we did in October 17 and the autumn of 19”, he added to the applause of the dozens of members and personalities who followed the event.

In fact, hundreds of organizations, entities and personalities from Catalan civil society will present this Monday a joint manifesto against the persecution and criminalization of the right to protest by the Spanish judiciary and in defense of the fundamental rights promoted by Òmnium.

Defense of amnesty

Despite warning that “amnesty will not end the repression”, giving examples of the cause of Tsunami or the Judes operation, Antich has taken heart from the approval of this measure of grace, remembering that Òmnium already defended in 2019. “It is a victory for the movement: the political conflict is at the heart of the State”, he remarked. Thus, he has urged the executive and legislative power to “correct the absurdity of justice violating fundamental rights”. In this scenario, he asked the pro-independence agents to take a long view “as Catalanism has always done” to work for the common goal of the right to self-determination “with constructive will and maximum ambition”.
