Belgium Dominates Nigeria in FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament

Due to a few misses and a lower defensive quality from the Cats in the second quarter, Nigeria was able to limit the damage: 40-29 at halftime.

The Nigerians came back from the locker room more determined and reduced the gap to three points (40-37). The Belgians reacted with a series of 20 consecutive points. Three-point shooting wasn’t easy for the Cats, but thanks to a winning shot from Julie Vanloo, they reached the fourth quarter with a score of 63-42.

Nigeria failed to fight back into the match. The Cats offered Sportpaleis some nice combinations at the end of the match, and Elise Ramette excited with a nice counter.

The top scorer among the Belgians was Antonia Delaere with 15 points. Emma Meesseman added 14 points. Elizabeth Balogun scored 17 points for Nigeria.

Rachid Meziane’s team can congratulate itself on a very successful qualifying tournament with two victories – against Senegal beaten 97 to 66 – and an honorable performance against the United States (defeat 81 to 79).

Eliminated Senegal will still play against the United States at 7:15 p.m.
