Real Madrid achieved a narrow 1-0 win at home to RB Leipzig. Los Blancos’ winning goal was scored by Brahim Diaz.
In the first leg of the 2023/2024 Champions League Round of 16 which was held at the Leipzig Arena, Wednesday (14/2/2024) early morning WIB, Madrid and Leipzig appeared aggressive by making 15 attempts.
Madrid, who only had three shots on target compared to Leipzig’s nine, became winners thanks to Diaz’s goal in the 48th minute.

This result makes Madrid more comfortable when they host Leipzig at the Santiago Bernabeu on March 6.

The course of the RB Leipzig vs Real Madrid match
Leipzig immediately kicked off from the early minutes and scored a goal in the third minute. It started with Xaver Schlager’s kick which aimed at Benjamin Sesko at the far post.
Sesko then headed the ball into Andriy Lunin’s goal. The goal was reviewed by VAR afterwards and canceled due to an earlier foul on Lunin which was pushed by one of the Leipzig players.
Madrid had difficulty developing their game in the first half because they were under a lot of pressure from Leipzig, who played aggressively. Without Jude Bellingham, Madrid’s attack line looks less bite.
In the ninth minute, Madrid had their first chance through Eduardo Camavinga who fired hard but the ball was blocked by Peter Gulasci.
Likewise, Sesko had a chance a minute later which was also blocked by Lunin.
In the 20th minute, Madrid threatened Leipzig’s goal again with Toni Kroos’ long-range shot which Kroos saved.
Leipzig still dominated the game and made threats several times across the width of the field. Madrid mostly waited to counterattack.
Until the first half of Leipzig vs Madrid ended, the score remained 0-0.
Three minutes after the break, Madrid immediately took a 1-0 lead thanks to Brahim Diaz’s beautiful goal. Receiving the ball on the right, Diaz cut-in, passed several players before shooting from inside the penalty box, which made the ball nestle in the top left corner.

This goal made Madrid more confident in controlling the game. They had another chance to score in the 63rd minute when Willy Orban’s mistake resulted in the ball being taken by Federico Valverde.
Valverde gave it to Vinicius who entered the penalty box, to then pass to Rodrgo who was standing free. Unfortunately, Rodrygo’s kick went wide.
In the 72nd minute it was Vinicius’ turn to create a chance when Diaz counterattacked and passed the ball to his partner near the penalty box. Vinicius checked one player and shot at the goalkeeper’s right side, but the ball hit the post.
Leipzig had a good chance to equalize the score in the 80th minute. The ball was suddenly released by Diaz who was experiencing pain in the calf area and was snatched by Amadaou Haidara.
Haidara passed to Sesko on the right who immediately shot into a tight corner, but was blocked by Lunin and ended up at the corner. From that corner, Leipzig had a chance which was thwarted by Lunin, this time from Haidara’s kick.
The match ended with a score of 1-0 in favor of Madrid.
