In 2012, he nearly led the Devils to victory in the Stanley Cup Final, but they ultimately lost to the Los Angeles Kings. However, he has not been able to advance past the second round of the playoffs since then.

Parise had initially planned to end his career after the previous season, despite achieving 34 points (21 goals, 13 assists) in 82 games with the Islanders. Even though he continued to practice, he remained satisfied with his choice for a few months.

“You don’t have to sacrifice any possessions to acquire a player of his caliber – someone who is skilled, experienced, and a strong hockey player,” stated Colorado’s forward Andrew Cogliano. “He has been performing well, but it may take some time for him to reach his desired level of play.”

In October, Parise resumed skating and gradually increased his frequency from three times a week to five. However, he also cherished the opportunity to spend time at home with his wife Alisha and their three children: 11-year-old twins Jaxson and Emelia, and 6-year-old Theodore.

In late summer, Parise felt the urge to start training again as he saw other players preparing for camp. Despite doubts, he believed he was still capable of playing.

Parise is optimistic that it will be advantageous for both himself and the Avalanche. Following a longer offseason to recharge, he is confident that he still has a lot to contribute to Colorado’s pursuit of their second Cup victory in three years.

“However, despite joining halfway through the season, he appears to be in good form.”

Parise shared that Alisha provided much-needed motivation by reminding him of the opportunities he had to play for half a year. Her encouragement ultimately led him to make the decision to give it one more shot.

Despite his initial hesitation, his wife motivated him to give playing and pursuing the Stanley Cup another chance.

Parise stayed in communication with Islanders’ GM Lou Lamoriello while he was away. However, he viewed the Avalanche (33-17-4) as his top opportunity, as they are currently in second place in the Central Division and considered strong contenders for the Cup this year.

Parise shared, “I had a great preview of life after it’s finished. I had the opportunity to coach all of my children’s teams and spend a substantial amount of time guiding and supporting them, as well as their teams. It was a fantastic experience being able to be home.”

Parise expressed his excitement about competing against top players and previous winners at this event. He mentioned their strong performance throughout the season as a motivating factor.

“I am willing to give my all in any role or situation that I am assigned to,” he expressed. “No matter where I am placed, I will put forth my best effort. My mindset remains unchanged. I am thankful for the chance to prove myself.”

Parise has stated that this upcoming season will be his last.
