On the eve of the start of the new Formula 1 season, Carlos Sainz indicates that he will mainly focus on his own chances in 2024. The Spaniard will be replaced by Lewis Hamilton at the end of the season and so he is reluctant to contribute anything to next year’s car.
The 29-year-old Sainz joined the Maranello racing stable in 2021, but will have to find a new team for next year. Sainz’s name has been associated with the Audi team yet to be established for some time, but Mercedes also has a vacant seat from next season. Sainz was the only driver, besides the men of Red Bull Racing, to take a win last year. The announced departure came as a blow. “It was a hard blow. I was quite sure that I would extend my contract with Ferrari.” Despite the setback, Sainz suspects that there is enough interest in his qualities. “I still feel like I’m in a good situation; I can still choose where I go.
