Coaches’ reflections on archers’ performances in recent competition

Coaches’ reactions

Christine Gauthé, coach, looks back for us on the competition which has just ended and on the performance of the barebow archers.

“Regarding Bastien (Bardo-Causse) who played his first international selection at 16, it’s a good first since he ranks 3rd with good pressure management. A first arena necessarily a little difficult but it’s encouraging and it gives good avenues for development for the future. For Lisa, it was also a first. She performed very good qualifications and behind her came some very good matches during the competition and despite the pressure of the arena, she was able to manage it very well. A very good result for her too. And finally, for Alicia, what a shame to fall in the quarter-final against the other Frenchwoman. We knew that one of the two would be eliminated after the competition. Unfortunately for her, Lisa was stronger than her that day. But a serious and diligent competition despite the outcome of the devouring match. »

Rémi Collin, coach, also gives us his feedback on the compound bows he supervised during this championship.

“Regarding Léa Girault, she performed very well in her qualifications, achieving her record (588 points) so she was very happy. She shot very well and with a good attitude on the shooting range with the desire to do well. A little more pressure on the matches, it was more difficult to manage. Despite everything, she knew how to handle it. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen in the semi-final against the Turk, who had just scored 150 points in the match before, which added a little pressure on her shoulders. Today in the arena, she was a little anxious but we felt the very strong desire to do well. The first ends were complicated but finally, she took the match in hand and she simply did what she knows how to do by letting the opponent make her mistakes and going ahead with a magnificent 30 on the last end which allowed her to to win this bronze medal.

Nicolas, for his part, is a very precise and experienced archer in international competitions. Rather average qualifications compared to what he can do. He was able to recover and shoot his arrows with a second perfect series at 300. He made a few small errors which caused him to lose his match against Adrien in the semi-final. This afternoon, in his short final, he achieved 150/150 with a lot of full-point arrows in the 10.

For Adrien, he performed very consistently in qualifying. During matches, the slightest error can be quickly punished in compound arches. He draws a first shoot-off in his second match which he must restart because of a tie in the shoot-off. His quarter-final was also shared but he managed to get the jump-off in the last end and once again a 10 which allowed him to win. He won in the semi-final against Nicolas and today, a little pressure compared to the final in the arena but a good attitude throughout despite some small errors which failed him. His opponent had been waiting for this victory for a long time. He dropped a single 9 while Adrien conceded a few more points. But a good result during this competition thanks to its regularity and precision.

We are satisfied with the attitude of the archers. We have a good team who were able to show solidarity and encourage each other in due time. Of course, we leave without a title but with four medals out of six archers. »
