Cyclocross World Championships 2024: The Passing of the Baton in Tabor

They start on Friday 2 February i Cyclocross World Championships 2024. An event that is a real passing of the baton between the mud season and the road season.

The theater of the 75th edition of the world championship is the Komora Sports Complex of Tabor (Czech Republic), already a world stage in 2010 (victories of Marianne Vos and Zdeněk Štybar) and in 2015 which marked the first battle in the Elite Men category between Wout Van Aert and Mathieu Van der Poel.

Tabor is also one of the first stops of world Cup European specialties.

Tabor 2024: farewell to the “old” Styby

Cyclocross World Championships 2024: will it still be Van der Poel-Van Empel?

Remaining in the Elite Men field, the number 1 favorite And Mathieu Van der Poel (photo below) while among the women the hunt for the title could be more open even if in the last two appearances in the World Cup the outgoing champion Fem Van Empel (Holland) has made it clear that she will be the cyclist to beat.

Expected in Tabor 311 Athletes and 26 nations divided in six categories Junior (Men and Women), Under 23 (Men and Women) and Elite (Men and Women).

In 2015 in Tabor it ended like this… A 19 year old Van der Poel won at Zdeněk Štybar’s home. The Dutch champion in the Czech Republic could win his sixth world title, equaling Eric De Vlaeminck. According to some rumours, the Tabor World Championship could be Van der Poel’s last race in cyclocross.

Path

2,950 meters per lap with technical and treacherous sections alternating with fast straights which in the past have also been “coloured” by snow.

The Komora Sports Complex track winds almost entirely on grass with a short stretch in the woods.
Asphalt present only in the start/finish area.

The maximum number of participating athletes for each category and nation is established on the basis of the fee World Cup ranking.
