Eric Hosmer Retires from Baseball, Plans Move to Media World

Eric Hosmer has officially ended his career.

The first baseman and former World Series winner opened up to John Perrotto of Forbes magazine, adding that he would pursue a career in the media world.

Hosmer, 34, spent 13 seasons in the majors and won the World Series with the Kansas City Royals in 2015.

A Miami native, Hosmer put together a podcast with former minor league teammate Anthony Seratelli and former Atlanta Braves reliever Peter Moyland.

“Now that my career is over, I think I have a lot of interesting stories to tell, especially from my last years in the Majors when I played in big markets like Chicago and Boston,” Hosmer said.

Selected third overall by the Royals in the 2008 draft, Hosmer made his major league debut in 2011 and finished third overall in the American Rookie of the Year voting.

After seven seasons with the Royals, Hosmer signed a free agent contract with the San Diego Padres. He subsequently played with the Red Sox, before ending his career with the Cubs.

Participating in the All-Star Game in 2016. Hosmer compiled a .276 batting average, hit 198 home runs and produced 893 runs in 1,689 big league games.
