Feyenoord U19 is just unable to complete their comeback and is out of the UEFA Youth League

Feyenoord’s Under 19s have been eliminated from the UEFA Youth League. Bayern Munich’s peers made the difference, especially in the first half. At halftime, the Rotterdam team faced a 3-0 deficit. Feyenoord almost managed to complete a comeback, but did not get further than 3-2.

Although the Germans did not create much in the opening phase, Feyenoord was powerless and Bayern Munich put full pressure on Feyenoord. After twenty minutes the home team deservedly took a 1-0 lead. It didn’t take long before the second goal was scored on the German side; Feyenoord lost their way after the opening goal. After a quick combination, Fernandez scored for Bayern, also because right back Lugene Arnaud cleared offside. Just before half time, Bayern also made it 3-0, making the match seem decided after 45 minutes.

Although Feyenoord could not make a fist at all before half time, Van Persie’s team seemed reborn after the break. Giersthove and Rudisill came into the team and gave the team the necessary energy. Within ten minutes, Fabiano Rust and substitute Giersthove brought the team completely back into the match.

With 35 minutes to go, Van Persie’s team was 3-2. Feyenoord also remained dangerous; first Mike Kleijn missed eye-to-eye with goalkeeper Schmitt, and a minute later Feyenoord seemed to have equalized. However, the referee disallowed the equalizer on the advice of his assistant. Nesto Groen would have made hands, but there is doubt about that. In the images the ball appears to land on his shoulder.

In the final phase, Ayoub Ouarghi in particular was close to the equalizer. The only sixteen-year-old midfielder shot fantastically from outside the sixteen towards the intersection in injury time, but keeper Schmitt grabbed the ball of his life. For example, Feyenoord failed to convert in the UEFA Youth League, mainly due to the weak first half.
