Injury setback for 16-year-old judoka Coco Baur raises doubts for European Championships and World Cup

The 16-year-old national team member from Leonberg is seriously injured again after recovering from a torn cruciate ligament – her participation in the European Championships and World Cup is shaky.

The South German U18 individual championships in Heilbronn were not a good star for the fighters from Roman Baur’s Leonberg Judo School. Coco Baur (up to 70 kg), the trainer’s daughter, had the worst luck. The 16-year-old had just recovered from a torn cruciate ligament and was called up to the national team thanks to strong performances. Coco Baur was in the final in Heilbronn after two quick victories over Jule Simon (TSG Backnang) and Natyra Hyseni (JZ Heubach), but she acted too cautiously against Hannah Müller (JZ Heubach). The opponent countered a weak attack from Leonberg, Coco Baur supported herself – and dislocated her elbow. The shocking result: a muscle and all ligaments torn. Coco Baur will probably be out for three months and her participation in the European Championships and World Cup is uncertain.
