The Italian Olympian concludes the final in Hermosillo (Mex) with the bronze: he beats Brady Ellison (USA) 6-2 in the quarterfinals,
loses the semifinal in the play-off with the Brazilian world no.1 Marcus D’Almeida, winning 6-5 (9*-9) who then goes on to win gold against Lee Woo Seok (Kor) 6-4. Mauro Nespoli took third place by beating the Indian Dhitaj Bommadevara 6-5 (10-9) in the shoot-off. For the Air Force athlete it is yet another international achievement that keeps him among the best in the world.

The 2023 World Cup ends in Hermosillo (Mex) with the finals in which Mauro Nespoli, the only Italian in the race, climbs onto the third step of the podium in the Olympic arc. For the Olympian it is the second best result of his career in this competition after the silver in 2019 and his journey in these Mexican finals begins with the person who, four years ago, denied him the most precious metal: Brady Ellison. In the quarterfinals, the Air Force archer finds himself facing the American and after a draw (28-28) in the first set, he takes home the victory 6-2 thanks to the two 29-28 in the third and fourth volleys, decisive for the success.

In the semi-final Nespoli challenges world number one Marcus D’Almeida and the match is for strong hearts. The Brazilian goes ahead 3-1 (29-27, 26-26), Nespoli equalizes with 27-26 in the third quarter, then D’Almeida overtakes (29-26) and the Italian takes it back (29-28) by postponing the verdict in the shoot-off in which both arrows end up on 9 but the Brazilian’s one is closer to the center. Thus it ends 6-5 (9-9*) and the doors of the bronze final open for Mauro Nespoli.

The last opponent of the day is the Indian Dhitaj Bommadevara who is defeated again at the playoff 6-5 (10-9). The match is a swing of emotions, the blue immediately goes ahead (30-29), the second volley ends in a draw (27-27), the third goes to the opponent (29-25) and so on before the last six arrows the scoreboard says 3-3. Nespoli takes the lead again in the fourth set (27-26), but Bommadavera mends the gap (28-27) and therefore it is still a shoot-off, but this time with a very different outcome for the Italian archer who places the arrow on 10 and takes a well-deserved bronze.
