MotoGP, how the new concessions work

Everyone is ready for the first Grand Prix of the year Qatar, or rather, almost all ready. Yes why Honda and Yamaha are still far away. The effort was made both by the engineers of the Japanese manufacturers and by Dorna, which at the end of last season had revolutionized the concession system to try to level out the values. A system designed to allow those who are behind to regain competitiveness.

Practically it is a series of technical aids that manufacturers will be able to obtain based on a points-based system. According to the new legislation: the brands will be classified into 4 groups (A, B, C or D) based on the percentage of the maximum points that can be accumulated in the constructors’ classification with a progressive impact on the tires available in tests, wild cards, test days, engines and aerodynamic developments. The calculation of concessions is based on two time windows to allow manufacturers to acquire or lose them – based on their performance – more quickly. And depending on the group you belong to, the different manufacturers will have greater or lesser margins for development on their bikes. Honda and Yamaha with less than 35% of points belong to group D which means: free development of the engines, more private tests with the starting riders and an extra aerodynamic package. Now there is no more time to waste, the advantage is evident and must be exploited 100%.
