New York Knicks File Lawsuit Against NBA Over Controversial Loss to Houston Rockets

The New York Knicks have filed a lawsuit against the NBA to correct the outcome of a 105-102 loss to the Houston Rockets on Monday night, reports ESPN.

A foul called against Jalen Brunson for alleged illegal contact on Aaron Holiday who attempted a desperation shot late in the game sent the latter to the free throw line with victory within his reach.

Holiday made two free throws with less than a second remaining on the clock and intentionally missed the last one to run out the clock, securing the victory for his team.

Official Ed Malloy admitted the foul should not have been called, which would have meant both teams would have had to play overtime. Because of this admission from Malloy, the Knicks decided to fulfill this request Tuesday night.

The Knicks and the Rockets will not face each other again this season, but the New York team hopes to resume the match tied in overtime or remove a defeat from their record.

To do this, it is necessary to prove that the problem comes from poor application of the regulation. Only six protests in league history have been upheld, the last coming 17 years ago when Shaquille O’Neal was improperly assessed a sixth personal foul when he was down to five. The game was replayed months later, when he was no longer with the team, having been traded to the Phoenix Suns.

The Knicks, who have lost three games in a row, are heavily affected by injuries and will welcome the All-Star break.
