The German Tennis Federation (DTB) has now published its squad lists for 2024. They are led by Alexander Zverev (Rochusclub Düsseldorf) and Laura Siegemund (TC Bredeney Essen). The name NielsMcDonald can also be found there. The Schweriner, who recently celebrated his 16th birthday, was accepted into the youth squad 1. This not only recognizes his consistently strong performance, but he can also rely on the association’s continued support.
In terms of sport, McDonald was just able to impress again in Oberhaching, Bavaria. He celebrated three victories in doubles with Sydney Zick (TC Blutenberg Munich) at the high-ranking ITF world rankings tournament for juniors (age group U 18), in which players from 21 countries took part. It was only in the final that McDonald/Zick had to admit defeat to the duo Henry Bernet (Switzerland) and Jan Klimas (Czech Republic) by a narrow margin of 7:6 (7:4), 4:6, 7:10. The Schwerin native, who also reached the round of 16 in the individual, also gained valuable points for the junior world rankings, in which he is currently in 375th place.
The next tournament is on February 19th in Oslo
After a short stopover in his home town of Schwerin, Niels McDonald goes straight back to Stockholm, where he has been training at the renowned tennis academy there for a long time. His next competition is just around the corner. Participation in the ITF junior world rankings tournament in Oslo is planned from February 19th.
