Pekerman won a million-dollar lawsuit against the Venezuelan Football Federation | FIFA ruled in favor of the Argentine coach and the PVF must pay him close to 3 million dollars

FIFA ruled in favor of the Argentine coach José Pekerman, who had sued the Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF) for breach of contract, and must now receive three million dollars.

According to a ruling released in the last few hours but dated November 2023, the Court of the entity that regulates world football demands from the FVF a payment that corresponds to various factors. In it he details 1.71 million in “remuneration owed” to the coach, plus five percent annual interest, which began to run on August 23 until the debt is settled, and 1.14 million for “contractual penalty.” .

The Venezuelan Federation will have a maximum period of 45 days to make the full payment to the experienced Argentine coach, who was in charge of the team until March 2023 and was then replaced by his compatriot Fernando Batista.

In the same document, FIFA makes it clear that “any further claim by the plaintiff is rejected.” This means that there will not be another legal episode between the former coach of the Argentine National Team and his last institution.

The cycle that Pekerman led the Venezuelan team began in November 2021 and came to an end in March 2023. Despite having assumed the mission of generating a restructuring in his team to try to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, the coach decided to put an end to their contractual relationship prior to the start of the Qualifiers.

In total there were 15 months of work, in which he only directed 10 games. The 74-year-old protagonist left a balance of five victories, four defeats (three corresponding to the Qualifiers for Qatar 2022) and one draw.

Following FIFA’s ruling, the Venezuelan Federation did not issue any statement in this regard. The last time he referred to Pekerman was to announce through his social networks that the termination of the contract between both parties had been “amicable” and in terms of “professionalism and commitment.”

Although the Venezuelan press revealed that the breach of the contract was generated after several irregularities in the management of the president of the FVF, Pascual Lezcano. This detail is not minor, since José Peseiro (Pekerman’s predecessor) resigned from his position and sued the Federation for a 14-month salary debt, which was later settled.
