Senior Departmental Championships Hosted by Chaumont Badminton Club

In partnership with the Aube/Haute-Marne Departmental Committee, the Chaumont badminton club is hosting the Senior Departmental Championships, at the Louis-Chaillot gymnasium, in Chaumont, this Saturday 3 (from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), and Sunday, February 4 (from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.). The Haut-Marne town had also hosted the previous senior departmental championships two years ago.

This competition will allow us to see around a hundred badistas, all members of clubs in the departments of Haute-Marne and Aube, and ready to fight for qualifying places in the Grand Est Regional Championships.

Among the different clubs, we can note the presence of the Chaumont badminton club (sixteen participants) and the Langres Badminton club (six participants) for Haute-Marne, the two registered from Bettancourt having had to withdraw due to injury, as well as those from Troyes, Bar-sur-Aube or Nogent-sur-Seine to name a few (Aube).

An “exciting” weekend

During this Saturday, the men’s, women’s and mixed doubles matches will be played (the final phase of a series of the latter is “on horseback” on Saturday and Sunday). It is also among the last competitors (mixed series “1”) that we “will probably see the most interesting and exciting confrontations”, according to Delphine Catalifaud, president of the Chaumont badminton club. These “high intensity” matches will extend from Saturday to Sunday, with an increasingly tough final phase. “It is in this series that we will be able to observe the strongest badistas,” says the president.

However, due to a lack of participants, the men’s and women’s doubles series “1” (two pairs out of three required) will not allow the badists to access the regional phase.

The next day, in addition to the mixed final phase of the different series, the gymnasium will see the entry into the running of singles players, both men and women. Unable to count on a teammate, each racquet enthusiast will have to fight “tooth and nail” with their opponent opposite, with the “line of sight” objective of access to the Grand Est senior regional championships.

It is therefore an opportunity for the residents of the Chaumont badminton club to be inspired and follow in the footsteps of their youth. Indeed, earlier in the season, the youth departmental championships took place, where two “chicks” qualified for the Regionals, which for their part will take place on February 17 and 18, in Pont-à-Mousson ( Meurthe-et-Moselle).
