A couple of nights before the Rams and Bengals played Super Bowl LVI at SoFi Stadium, Travis Kelce and his commercial agents, André and Aaron Eanes, were driving down some of the most iconic streets in Los Angeles when the tight end of The Chiefs marveled at the large number of advertisements featuring the image of Dwayne Johnson, the actor best known as The Rock.
“Man, I don’t think I’ll ever be as famous as The Rock,” Kelce told his traveling companions in the only Super Bowl week in which he hasn’t starred in the last five years.
At that time, Travis was already a recognized player in the NFL, but his name was exclusive to football conversations that placed him as one of the best men at his position.
Aided by the Eanes brothers, Travis’ popularity grew so much that he reached the top of the world. Over the past year he has starred in seven national television commercials in the United States. The podcast he hosts with his brother Jason is among the most popular on Spotify. He launched a successful clothing line. But all of the above almost didn’t happen… Kelce, now 34 years old, was frozen out for a season during his college days with the University of Cincinnati Bearcats due to a violation of prohibited substance policies.
Travis crossed a line that, if it hadn’t been for his brother Jason, there would have been no way back. The elder Kelce (a member of the Bearcats in that 2011 season) intervened with the coach and promised to take care of Travis and keep him out of trouble.
Jason’s strategic program paid off when his younger brother put together two dream seasons that catapulted his name into the 2013 NFL draft, when he was selected by the Chiefs.
Teaming up with Patrick Mahomes, Kelce and the Chiefs have achieved three Super Bowl rings, 11,380 receiving yards, 74 touchdowns and a fame that currently surpasses that of The Rock, but that would not have been possible without Jason’s brotherly love , whom Travis honors by wearing the number 87 for his year of birth.
