the Slovak will no longer be worth more than the Valencian to work in healthcare

Valencia The Popular Party and Vox have backed down on their initiative so that the knowledge of Catalan is less valued than the mastery of foreign languages of the European Union (EU) to work in Valencian public health. The rectification has been advanced by the digital newspaper Valencia Plaza and it has been confirmed to the ARA by sources present at the meetings between the leaders of the Ministry of Health and the representatives of the workers who these days are negotiating the future rule.

According to these sources, in the meeting, the Council, which has refused to make statements to the ARA about the evolution of the talks, attributed to an “error” the scale known last week and included in the draft decree that has to regulate the selection of temporary health personnel.

In the now amended draft, it was stipulated that mastery of the languages recognized by the EU could mean up to six points – out of a total of 96 –. Each language could add up to four points and, if more than one was known, six points could be accumulated. Conversely, the maximum rating that could be obtained for dominating the Valencian was four.

With the ministry’s rectification, which Sanitat has conveyed orally to the workers’ representatives without providing a new draft, foreign languages will score a maximum of 2 points. As for Catalan, the rating made public last week and which awarded a maximum of 4 points to knowledge of Valencian will be maintained. This assessment represents a reduction of between 50% and 66% of the score provided by knowledge of Catalan at the moment. If now the C2 title – the highest – adds up to six points, in the future it will be worth four. In the same way, levels C1 and B2 will be reduced by 50% – from six to three points and from four to two respectively. Finally, the B1 will go from being rated in three points to just one (a reduction of 66%).

Proficiency in Catalan is no longer a requirement in the Balearic Islands

The measure of the Valencian government of PP and Vox follows in the footsteps of the one applied by the government of the Balearic Islands, which in the summer approved the elimination of the language requirement and its downgrade to the category of merit.

In the case of the Valencian Country, and with the exception of the field of education, knowledge of Catalan has never been considered a requirement. When it came closest to being so, it was during the last legislature, when the PSPV, Compromís and Unides Podemos reached an agreement for its implementation in the entire administration with the sole exception of the health sector. Finally, however, they did not arrive in time to approve it.
