The Youngest Quarterbacks to Play in a Super Bowl: A Look at Brock Purdy and NFL History

This Sunday will be Super Bowl LVIII that will feature Brock Purdy, one of the youngest quarterbacks to play in a Super Bowl at only 24 years old. The San Francisco 49ers player will join a group of legends in the NFL.

The youngest quarterback to be in a Super Bowl is Dan Marino. The Hall of Fame member did it at 23 years and 127 days with the Miami Dolphins team.

Although Marino was defeated 36-16 by Joe Montana’s 49ers. That was Marino’s only Super Bowl appearance.

Ben Roethlisberger is the second youngest at 23 years and 340 days. “Big Ben” had a discreet performance with the Pittsburgh Steelers and took the championship ring against the Seattle Seahawks.

David Woodley is in third position at 24 years and 97 days. The Dolphins quarterback did not have a good performance and did not complete passes in the second half to lose to the Washington Commanders.

Brock Purdy will be able to dethrone Woodley by playing in the Super Bowl at 24 years and 49 days old.

Brock Purdy and the trust that the 49ers coach has in him

Kyle Shanahan, coach of the San Francisco 49ers, highlighted this Tuesday the humility of his ‘quarterback’ Brock Purdy before the Las Vegas Super Bowl in which they will face Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs.

“I think that’s the most special thing about Brock. He doesn’t have to change much (for a match of this magnitude) because it really is like that. Brock is one of the most humble people I’ve ever been with,” he said in a press conference.

In response to another question, Shanahan said it’s “unusual” to have two of the five regular-season MVP finalists on his roster: Purdy and Christian McCaffrey.

“They have both been incredible and are the most important parts of our offense,” he said.
