Timberwolves Acquire Monte Morris from Pistons in Last-Minute Trade

The Pistons are active less than 24 hours from the NBA Trade Deadline. After recruiting Simone Fontecchio, the Detroit franchise releases Monte Morris to the Wolves. Minnesota finally gets back a quality backup point guard.

The news was announced by Shams Charania of The Athletic.

  • Direction Minnesota : Monte Morris

We knew that the Wolves were looking for a solution to back up their leader Mike Conley, who shows limits in terms of offensive execution (especially at the end of the match).

If Monte Morris is not very spectacular, he has little waste in his game and showed with the Nuggets that he was a quality backup. Over his entire career, he averages 10.4 points and 4 assists (only 0.8 turnovers), 48% shooting including 39% from 3-point range. It’s clean ! It’s no coincidence that Tim Connelly – boss of the Wolves and former manager of Denver – wanted to recruit him despite only six games played this year in Detroit.

On the Pistons side, we are parting ways with a veteran in the last year of his contract to get a second round of draft, with Shake Milton and Troy Brown Jr.. The first – disappointing this season – has a non-guaranteed contract next year, ditto for the second.

It is ultimately Monte Morris who will strengthen the Wolves bench!

Behind Mike Conley the confidence in the lead was too light, especially with the great disappointment Shake Milton.

Minnesota has its backup leader!
