With regard to the ongoing media and public discussion about the DFL licensee model, often incorrectly referred to as the “DFL investor issue”, the presidium and board of VfB Stuttgart emphasize that they have fundamentally agreed to this far-reaching decision by German professional football. However, we only gave this approval after what we considered to be absolutely necessary improvements to the design of the model had been made. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the DFL Presidium once again for this.
Nevertheless, we are concerned about the progressing debate in the media, in and around the clubs and in the fan curves, which is partly moving away from factual and critical discourse. As VfB Stuttgart, we have relied on transparency and constructive dialogue with our members and fans right from the start in order to make progress on the matter even if there are different opinions and to clearly explain our decision.
We consider this transparency, coupled with comprehensive communication, to be absolutely crucial with regard to the further course of the process. We trust the elected members of the DFL Presidium that they will manage this process transparently and achieve exactly the result that is right and extremely important for German professional football. If we as VfB Stuttgart can do our part, we are ready to do so at any time.
