Alpine Formula 1 Team in Crisis: Technical Managers Resign Amid Poor Results

Alpine’s Formula 1 team is in crisis. Two technical managers have left due to the poor results of the French racing team.

Alpine had a dramatic start to Formula 1 last weekend. Drivers Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly started from the last row of the grid in Bahrain on Saturday. They finished seventeenth and eighteenth respectively.

According to various media, technical director Matt Harman and South African Dirk de Beer, who was responsible for the car’s aerodynamics, resigned before the launch of the new car.

Alpine announced the departure of Harman and De Beer on Monday, although the team pretends that both have been fired. The racing team has appointed three technical directors as their replacements: Joe Burnell (engineering), David Wheater (aerodynamics) and Ciaron Pilbeam (performance).

Things have been restless at Alpine for some time now. Last season, CEO Laurent Rossi, team boss Otmar Szafnauer and sporting director Alan Permane were dismissed and technical director Pat Fry resigned. Fry now works at Williams.

Alpine has been in a downward spiral for some time. The successor to the successful Renault finished fourth in the team championship in 2022. Last season the racing stable dropped to a disappointing sixth place. The second race of the season will be held in Saudi Arabia next Saturday.
