Atlético Madrid eliminated last year’s finalists Inter Milan and reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Coach Diego Simeone’s team beat the Italian football club 3-2 on penalties on Wednesday evening. After regular time and subsequent extra time, the score was 2-1 (1-1, 0-0) for Atlético. Inter won the first leg 1-0.
Antoine Griezmann (35th minute) and Memphis Depay (87th) scored for the hosts during regular time. Federico Dimarco (33rd) initially gave Inter the lead. In the penalty shootout, Atlético goalkeeper Jan Oblak saved two penalty kicks from the guests, and Inter captain Lautaro Martinez also shot over. The draw for the quarter-final games will now take place this Friday without the Italians.

It remained an entertaining game even after the break. This time Inter initially came out better, but the hosts also remained dangerous. In the third minute of injury time, substitute Rodrido Riquelme had a great chance to score the winning goal, but shot over from close range in front of Sommer.
