Souza, several times world medalist, beat the Dutch Marit Kamps in the final, in a category in which the Cuban legend Idalys Ortiz (four Olympic and eight world medals) and the Serbian Milica Zabic were third.

For his part, Goncalves, a judoka without great universal awards, shone in the 100 kilograms, with triumphs against the German George Unidoslauri, the British Rhys Thompson, the Austrian Laurin Boehler, his compatriot Rafael Buzacarini (semifinal) and the Portuguese Jorge Fonseca ( final), a tanned Olympic judoka in Tokyo-2020 and double world title holder (2019 and 2021).
