Johan Derksen and René van der Gijp are absolutely not impressed by Jordan Henderson. At Today Inside they express their dissatisfaction with the Englishman, who came over from the Saudi Al-Ettifaq in the winter.

Although Henderson made the switch from Saudi Arabia to the Netherlands on a transfer-free basis, he does earn a salary of millions in Amsterdam. The veteran reportedly earns around 4.5 million euros annually. This makes him one of the top earners within the selection of the record champion.

Earlier on Thursday, trainer John van ‘t Schip announced at the press conference that Henderson will have to miss the next three matches. As a result, the controlling midfielder misses De Klassieker with Feyenoord.

Henderson has played nine matches in an Ajax shirt so far, six of which in the Eredivisie and three in the Conference League. In this he was anything but able to convince the men of Today Inside.

“If he is paid per match, he gets a million per match,” Derksen says jokingly about his nine appearances. “That Henderson, man,” sighs Van der Gijp. “That was a real waste of money. If there was something you didn’t need, it was him.”

Derksen believes that Henderson’s absence in De Klassieker is not bad news for Ajax at all. “It’s not a problem at all that he’s not participating, René,” he says to his tablemate.

Van der Gijp wholeheartedly agrees with this. “No, no one misses him,” says the analyst, who does not understand Ajax’s policy. Gijp calls the choice to hire Henderson in the winter ‘very special’.
