Swear for the home European Championships!

Before the tournament in their own country (June 14th to July 14th), the DFB is taking a special measure that has not been seen for a long time. Above all, memories of the summer fairy tale of 2006 are brought back.

Secret DFB team evening revealed!

BILD knows: Our national team met in Frankfurt on Tuesday evening to drive electric karts. Meeting point: The “Eco-Kart” track in the Frankfurter Berg district, which is considered the most modern and innovative in Europe. There the DFB stars race over several floors in Rimo karts that have 2 x 2.8 KW electric motors.

Special parallels: Even before the home World Cup in 2006, the national team, then in the Sardinia training camp, had dueled in a kart race. Winner at the time: Thomas Hitzlsperger (41) ahead of Bernd Schneider (50) and Michael Ballack (47). The team then got off to a good start on the pitch and came third in a highly emotional summer fairy tale.

And: Last week, the FC Bayern team also committed themselves to the final spurt of the season through a team-building exercise in the Kart Palace in Bergkirchen near Munich. Winner: Leon Goretzka (29), who was not nominated this time.

Will the kart evening be the initial spark again before the home European Championships?

The fact is: after the two bankruptcies under national coach Julian Nagelsmann (36) in November against Turkey (2:3) and Austria (0:2), the two upcoming international matches against France (Saturday, 9 p.m. in Lyon) and Holland (Tuesday, 8.45 p.m. in Frankfurt) definitely brings a sense of success.

The secret team evening is also intended to create new solidarity among the stars. With Toni Kroos (34) and Manuel Neuer (37) there are two returnees, with Robin Koch (27/Frankfurt), Jan-Niklas Beste (25/Heidenheim), Maximilian Beier (21/Hoffenheim), Deniz Undav (27), Maximilian Mittelstädt (27) and Waldemar Anton (27/all Stuttgart) also have six newcomers.

At 7:25 p.m. the team set off from the “Kempinski Gravenbruch” hotel in the team bus, and at 7:42 p.m. Kroos, captain Ilkay Gündogan (33), Joshua Kimmich (29) and Co. reached the kart track. Not there like at every team evening: Nagelsmann’s coaching team. At the same time, the national coach kicked the ball on the DFB campus.

The secret team meetings of the national team have long been an established ritual. In the last international match year, BILD had already caught the players at the posh Asian “Zenzakan” (Wirtz missed the bus departure in March), playing bowling in Oberursel and eating at the Frankfurt steakhouse “Vaivai”.

The organizer has always been Eintracht goalkeeper Kevin Trapp (33). This time, like numerous other stars (Goretzka, Hummels, Süle), he is not in the DFB squad.
