In the “Optibet” Latvian championship for men (National League competition), on Wednesday “Vecumnieki” beat VK “Piijūra”/MSĂ in five sets and entered the semi-finals, and at the weekend VK “Ventspils” won the first semi-final game, and “Optibet” Latvian championship for women as the winners of the main tournament became RSU/MSG volleyball players.
In the “Optibet” Latvian men’s championship (National League competition), “Vecumnieki” became the last semi-finalist, which on Wednesday in the gymnasium of Misa High School overcame a set deficit and in five sets, the last one – with 18:16, defeated VK “Piejūra”/MSG volleyball players, winning the series with 2-1. Dāvis Alkšbirze scored 19 points for the winners, while Indars Asars scored 26 points for the guests.
On the other hand, on Saturday, the first victory in the semifinals was won by the champions VK “Ventspils” volleyball players, who defeated “Augšdaugava” in five sets, winning the fifth set with 19:17. Also in the semi-finals, the winners are decided up to two games won.
In the second semi-final, “Vecumnieki” will meet “Jēkabpils juniori”/JSS.
In the “Optibet” Latvian women’s championship, the first two places were won by RSU/MSĂ and RVS/LU, which means entering the semi-finals, but the last place was taken by “Mārupes SC”, without entering the knockout tournament games.
Saturday’s match was decisive in the fight for second place, in which RVS/LU beat VK Jelgava in five sets at home. Anete Čelnova scored 17 points for the winners, while Anna Cepurīte, who stood out with five aces, and Lāsma Ozola, who scored six points with a block and three with a serve, scored 16 points each. For the losers, Līva Sola scored 16 points, while Rūta Zīle scored five of her eight points with uncatchable serves.
On Sunday, in a match that did not decide anything between RSU/MSG, the Riga girls lost to Jelgava girls in four sets. For the winners, Sola scored 19 points, stepping out from the service line four times, Simona Rozīte scored six of her 14 points with a block, and Karlina Kazākas collected four points with a serve. Linda Liniņa also scored 14 points. Agija Ankevics scored 19 points for the guests, Katrína Struk scored 16 points and Carmen Struk scored 13 points.
VK “Jelgava” and LU/RVS, as well as “SUFA klubs”/DU and RSU/MSĂ 2 will meet in the quarter-finals up to two wins.
In the seven-team competition, RSU/MSG collected 45 points in 18 games, while RVS/LU and VK “Jelgava” collected 42 points each, with the girls from Riga taking second place. “SUFA klubs”/DU finished with 19 points, RSU/MSG 2 and LU/RVS – with 14 points, and “Marupes SC” – with 13 points.
