Exciting Weekend of School Sports in Albacete: Chess, Cycling, Swimming, Judo, Paddle Tennis, Athletics, and Mountain Biking

Intense weekend in the 2023/2024 School Sports Calendar organized by the Provincial Council of Albacete, under the agreement signed with the General Directorate of Sports of the Community Board of Castilla-La Mancha. There was chess in Pozohondo, cycling in Ontur, artistic swimming in Albacete, judo also in the capital, paddle tennis in Ontur and Montealegre del Castillo, track athletics in Albacete and mountain biking in Tobarra.

The Provincial Chess Phase held the third of its four events in Pozohondo, in a competition organized thanks to the collaboration of the Chess Federation of Castilla-La Mancha. More than 150 schoolchildren participated in the Infant and Cadet categories, representing the clubs Albacete, Excalibur, Parque Sur, AMPA Valdeganga, La Felipa, Almansa, La Roda, Villarrobledo, EDM Caudete, EMD Ontur, Elche de la Sierra, Pozohondo and Madrigueras .

Ontur hosted the Cycling Schools test for the cadet category, organized thanks to the collaboration of the Cycling Federation of Castilla-La Mancha and with the support of the town council and the Peña Ciclista Ortega y Del Ramo. Bad weather reduced participation at the last minute in this 1st El Madroño Cadet Trophy. Pablo Machancoses Salas (Infinobras – Grupo Sime) was the champion, reaching the finish line alone. On the podium he was accompanied by Daniel Sánchez Moreno (Grupo Deportivo Llopis) and José Antonio Fernández Cerdán (Juan Giner – Ulevel – Vitadinsport).

The Juan de Toledo swimming pool in Albacete hosted the School Artistic Swimming Championship (synchronized swimming). The Sincro Alba Club was our representative, with a total of 50 participants, in a competition that brought together more than 150 schoolchildren, since there was also participation from clubs from Toledo, Guadalajara, Ugena, Villaseca de la Sagra, Lorca and Alhama. The swimmers from Albacete achieved magnificent results, with very good performances and a large number of medals.

The I Phase of the Judo Championship in the juvenile category was held in the Albacete Fair Pavilion, organized by the Judo Federation of Castilla-La Mancha and the CD Judo Club Albacete Escolapios-Formas. More than 160 judokas from across the region gathered in this event, wanting to start the competition season on the right foot. Regarding the Albacete representation, the judokas of the Judo Club Albacete Escolapios-Formas achieved 3 golds, 1 silver and 2 bronzes, while the members of Judo Casas Ibáñez won 1 gold, 1 silver and 7 bronzes.

Sunday session

The Provincial Paddle Championship held the second event of the season in the towns of Ontur and Montealegre del Castillo, led by the Castilla-La Mancha Paddle Federation and with the support of the town councils involved. The Children’s Male category was held in Ontur. In the final of the tournament, Ángel Egido and Juan Martínez were the champions, defeating Unai García and Borja Almendo in two sets, by a double 6-2. For its part, the rest of the categories were held in Montealegre del Castillo. In Alevín Femenino, Irene Hernández and Carolina Vizcaíno won, with Alicia Yáñez and Daniela Cuenca as runners-up. In Male Alevín the champions were Eloy Delicado and Guillermo Moreno, with Aurelio Tobarra and Álvaro García in second place. Aitana Martínez and Laura Martínez were the champions in Women’s Children’s, with Carla Abellán and Isabel Guerrero as runners-up. Finally, in Men’s Cadet the champions were Ezequiel Sáez and Andrés Sáez, with Sergio Ramos and Álvaro Martínez as runners-up.

The Albacete Athletics Tracks hosted the second day of the Provincial Outdoor Track Athletics Championship for the under 14, under 16 and under 18 categories, thanks to the collaboration of the Castilla-La Mancha Athletics Federation and the support of the Albacete City Council, through the Municipal Sports Institute. In this second event, tests of 300 meter dash, 400 meters, 1,000 meters, 1,500 meters, 5,000 meters, 80 meter hurdles, 100 hurdles, 110 hurdles, 2,000 meter walk, 3,000 walk, 5,000 walk, long jump, triple jump were held. , shot put and javelin.

The BTT School Sports Championship held its first test in the town of Tobarra with the presence of more than 50 runners. The champions of the different categories were the following: Bruno López Chiclano and Sofía Ruiz Martínez (Beginner), Francisco José Marín Sánchez and Elena Sevilla Almansa (Promises), Pablo Lara Martínez and Magdalena Pulpón Nieves (Alevín), Daniel Marín López and Vega García García (Infant), Mario Navarro Piñera and Gema Tornero Ortega (Cadet).
