Gardner Minshew signs with Las Vegas Raiders | AP
There is a new quarterback in Las Vegas, after the Raiders will sign Gardner Minshew at the start of free agency.
‘El Bigote’ arrives in the black and silver after signing for 2 years and 25 million dollars15 of which are guaranteed, a considerable number and that seems to indicate that the Raiders do not see him as a backup to Aidan O’Connell.
The Raiders will be Minshew’s fourth team, who came to the NFL after being taken by the Jaguars in the sixth round of the 2019 Draft. He spent two years as a starter in Jacksonville before being traded to the Eagles, where he spent two years as Jalen Hurts’ backup. He signed as a free agent with the Colts in 2023, following coach Shane Steichen, and after Anthony Richardson’s injurybecame the starter and kept the team in contention for the Playoffs until Week 18, when they fell to the Texans, falling 15 yards away from the division title.
Minshew was chosen to the Pro Bowl after finishing with a 7-6 record as a starter, completing 62.2% of his passes for 3,305 yards, 15 touchdown passes and 9 interceptions.
The Raiders will have their third different QB in the last three years. 2022 was the last year of Derek Carr, after which they signed Jimmy Garoppolo, who was sat out due to injury and poor performance. The noob Aidan O’Connell took control of the offense definitively in Week 9 and finished with a record of 5-5 as a starterbut he never threw for more than 300 yards and his performances led to speculation about his position. It was even mentioned that Justin Fields could come to Las Vegas, but it seems that this option is ruled out with the arrival of Minshew.
