Introducing Women to the Art of Archery: The Lande Archers’ Initiative

The Lande archers opened their hall in Allende to discover women’s archery, Friday and Sunday. In total, around forty young girls and women were able to try out a discipline, which remains predominantly male.

Eva, 24, a graphic design student, testifies. Archery gives good sensations throughout the body and head. You have to be both focused and relaxed. Camille, her childhood friend and licensed archer at the club, guided her in her initiation. I accompanied her to test four flights of six arrows. I started competing this winter myself. Our sport is accessible to all levels and all ages. The postures are excellent for the back and balance. The atmosphere in our group is nice, some archers come with their children.

Jean-Louis Gautier, treasurer and supervisor, was delighted with the success of this initiation. Our objective, in conjunction with the Federation, was to show the female public that archery can perfectly suit them.

Four people came from the Marguerite barracks headquarters. Many signed up for a second full session. Licensing is being considered for some. A discovery license is offered at €80, child or adult. The equipment is loaned.

The Lande archers, chaired by Xavier Mortagne, are represented at national and world level by Jacquolandin Jean-Michel Cleroy, president of the French Archery Federation and member of World Archery.

Within the Olympic Committee, he is actively preparing the major Paris 2024 meeting which will be held at Les Invalides for archery.
