Jannik Sinner Sinner’s journey in doubles came to an end at the Masters tournament in Indian Wells on Monday. The South Tyrolean lost to masters of their field alongside Lorenzo Sonego.

The 37-year-old Marcel Granollers and the 38-year-old Horacio Zeballos are ranked 10th and 11th in the doubles world rankings. Given this, they were favored against Sinner and Sonego, despite the South Tyroleans’ top form. The Spaniard and the Argentinian also lived up to this role, winning 7:6 and 6:3.

In a competitive opening set, Sinner and Sonego saved themselves in the tiebreak after having to fend off break points in three different service games. Granollers and Zeballos showed all their routine at this moment and did not give up a single point to their opponents. Right at the beginning of the second section, Sinner and Sonego missed a break chance before they had to accept the first loss of serve of the day with the score at 2:3. Granollers and Zeballos didn’t give up their lead and scored their third match point after 1.40 hours.

Focus on Shelton match

While the tournament is definitely over for Sonego, Sinner can now concentrate on the individual competition. The man from Sexten will face the American Ben Shelton in the round of 16 on Tuesday. The time is not yet known.
