CLEVELAND — Knicks All-Star guard Jalen Brunson had to be helped off the court Sunday due to a knee injury left (a potentially devastating setback for the New York Knicks) in the first minute of a 107-98 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

However, Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters after the game that Brunson has a bruise on his knee and x-rays were negatives. He said he did not yet have a timetable for Brunson’s return.
Brunson, who averages 27.2 points, was injured while attempting a jump shot on Isaac Okoro, from Cleveland. Brunson came off a screen near the foul line and got up without any contact.
Brunson, 27, had his legs snapped awkwardly as he fell again, and he stumbled toward the 3-point line before falling to the ground. He grabbed his left leg and sat on the court as the game continued.
Brunson stood up briefly before limping to the bench and falling again. They helped him up and took him to the locker room in obvious pain and anguish.
“I think every time someone goes down like that, you worry. But then you feel a little better. They took x-rays. The doctors examined him. That news is good“said Thibodeau.
A replay showed that, at the beginning of New York’s first possession, Brunson bumped knees with Knicks center Isaiah Hartensteinas he walked past his teammate while performing a screen.
Brunson, an elite scorer, has been carrying the Knicks, who nThey do not have starting forward Julius Randle (shoulder), center Mitchell Robinson (ankle) or guard OG Anunoby (elbow) due to injuries.
Brunson is in his second season with the Knicks, who signed him to a four-year, $104 million contract as a free agent in 2022. Brunson spent his first four NBA seasons with the Dallas Mavericks.
