Metropolitans to the group stage of the Sudamericana

Metropolitanos FC got their ticket to the group stage of the Copa Sudamericana this Tuesday by beating Carabobo FC in a penalty shootout at the Misael Delgado.

Charlis Ortiz took advantage of the only clear opportunity that Metropolitanos had in the first half and in the 7th minute scored to put the violets ahead.

In the second half Carabobo went in search of an equalizer. In the 62nd minute the opportunity would come, after a handball in the area by Anthony Graterol that would be sentenced as a penalty and with the expulsion of the Metropolitanos player.

From the penalty spot Juan Carlos Ortiz scored the goal that tied the score at one.

This is how they would end after 90 minutes of play plus the aggregate, so who qualified for the group stage of the Sudamericano would be defined from the penalty spot.

The first four collectors of each team would do it effectively. In the fifth turn, Francisco Apaolaza would come for Carabobo, Álvaro Villete would become the hero of Metropolitanos, blocking the shot.

Francisco Bareiro would put the icing on the cake by scoring the penalty that gave Metropolitanos the victory 5-4 and a place in the group stage of the Copa Sudamericana.

This is the third time in the last four editions that Metropolitanos will play in the group stage of the Sudamericana.
