Mexican Archery Team for Paris 2024 Olympics Defined, Leading to Upsets in Selection Process

Added to the casualties were those of Mariana Avitia, who won bronze in London 2012, and the Pan-American champion Valentina Vázquez

Last weekend the formation of the Mexican Archery Team that will participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games was defined, and the elimination of Aída Roman and Luis Abuelo Álvarez stood out, who did not manage to place themselves in the first three places of the classification.

At the National Center for Talent Development and High Performance, located south of Mexico City, both athletes finished in fourth overall position, thus losing their ticket to the summer tournament.

In addition to the losses of Álvarez and Román, Mariana Avitia, who won bronze in London 2012, and the Pan-American champion Valentina Vázquez were added, but on this occasion they fell behind in the selection process.

For its part, the Archery Operational Committee in Mexico confirmed that Alejandra Valencia from Sonora will be the captain of the women’s team, which she integrates with Ángela Ruiz Rosales and Ana Paula Vázquez Flores. The participants also assured their participation in individual modality for the next Olympics.

The men’s team in this specialty is made up of Matías Grande, Javier Rojas and Bruno Martínez; They will participate for the first time in that sporting event. The archers will still compete for the team ticket for the Pan American Championships to be held in Medellín from April 7 to 13 of this year.

Matías Grande will debut as a Mexican Olympic athlete in Paris 2024, because he secured his place in the individual modality, during the last Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile 2023.
