Former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, one of the most famous boxers ever, will return to a boxing match almost twenty years after his retirement. The fight will take place on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, it will be against the influencer Jake Paul, who began his boxing career in 2018, and will be broadcast live on Netflix, which announced it Thursday afternoon. For Tyson it will be the first boxing match since November 2020, when he had an exhibition match against former boxer Roy Jones Jr. (no title is awarded in an exhibition match).
Tyson is 57 years old, he is considered one of the best heavyweights in the history of boxing and was also very famous for his violence and aggression in the ring. He retired from boxing in 2005 after losing to Irishman Kevin McBride, in what was the sixth fight he lost out of 58. Paul, on the other hand, is 27 years old and before dedicating himself to boxing he was famous especially among American kids thanks to his YouTube channel.
The event shows how Netflix is trying to also offer sports programs or programs that have to do with sport, to further broaden its audience. The company recently signed a multibillion-dollar deal to broadcast “Raw,” the weekly event from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), a major wrestling broadcast company.
