Minnesota Timberwolves face setback as Karl-Anthony Towns suffers torn meniscus

Bad news in Minnesota. According to Adrian Wojnarowski (ESPN), Karl-Anthony Towns (28 years old and 2.13 m) suffers from a torn meniscus in his left knee. It is unknown how long the power forward will be out for the Timberwolves, who find themselves, with 20 games left to close the season, ranked first in the Western Conference (tied with the Oklahoma City Thunder) with a balance of 43-19: It is one more victory than last year and only three of those achieved in 2021-22. Since 2010, the franchise-high has been 47 wins.

The injury is a devastating blow for the Dominican, who was having a monstrous season: he had participated in his fourth All Star Game and his averages were 22.1 points (42.3% from three-point range) and 8.4 rebounds. But the important thing was not just his numbers, but the feeling that he had finally managed to adapt to the internal presence of Rudy Gobert and the increasingly leading role of his partner Anthony Edwards.

With these three stars, the Wolves’ attack flowed, completing the great defensive work of a team that is the least hit per 100 possessions: it only receives 106.5 points. Cavaliers and Orlando, the next in the ranking, suffer three more points per 100 possessions (109.5).

Without yet knowing how long Towns will be out, the Wolves’ season is on hold. Not so much their regular season (it is already superb), but in the future, with playoffs just around the corner that excited a franchise that already has two qualifications, but that has not passed the first round since 2004.
