Domenico Tedesco could well be deprived of his serial scorer for the trips to Ireland and England. Romelu Lukaku is very uncertain.
Are we heading towards a very embarrassing package for Domenico Tedesco? This Monday, when Romelu Lukaku arrived in Tubize, a detail quickly worried Red Devils supporters. The Roma striker did not in fact have any suitcase with him, as he is used to; this suggested that Lukaku would only be passing through the selection.
For several weeks, Romelu Lukaku has been suffering from hip inflammation which forced him to rest last Thursday in the European Cup. He was back in the AS Roma eleven this weekend against Sassuolo, but apparently the embarrassment is still there.
According to The last news, Lukaku came to Tubize to greet the group, discuss with Tedesco but did not participate in the collective exercises: he followed an individual program and carried out additional examinations. And his hip wouldn’t have responded as well as hoped.
No Lukaku in Dublin and London?
Bert Driessen, Romelu Lukaku’s usual physiotherapist during national gatherings, will carefully follow the physical evolution of the top scorer in the history of the Devils. It will then be decided at the end of the week whether or not Lukaku will accompany the group to Ireland and England. For the moment, the trend does not seem to be optimistic.
It would of course be a big blow for Domenico Tedesco, who would lose a player who scored 15 goals in 9 games in 2023. But also a huge opportunity for Loïs Openda or Michy Batshuayi to show themselves…
