Rummenigge with Nagelsmann tip

Former Bayern boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge speaks about the German national team before the upcoming international matches – and takes a small swipe at national coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Julian Nagelsmann wants to get the German national team back on the right track and is carrying out a change around three months before the start of the European Football Championship.

Many new faces such as the Stuttgart trio Deniz Undav, Waldemar Anton and Maximilian Mittelstädt can therefore have legitimate hopes of taking part in the tournament in their own country.

But Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, member of the supervisory board and former CEO of FC Bayern, emphasized before the friendly games against France (March 23) and the Netherlands (March 26) that a new hierarchy should now be found as quickly as possible. “This is something that Julian Nagelsmann has to work out now,” explained Rummenigge in an interview with the Abendzeitung.

Goretzka? “That was a surprise”

“We have a lot of young players, undoubtedly good players, great talents. But it’s important that a team has a hierarchy,” added Rummenigge and didn’t miss the opportunity to take a small swipe at the national coach: “Unfortunately, we didn’t have that very clearly during Nagelsmann’s time at FC Bayern. He now has to find it in a relatively short time, which is difficult enough.”

Rummenigge cannot understand Leon Goretzka’s non-nomination. “If I’m honest, it’s the wrong time not to invite him. There’s no question that he had times this year where he didn’t play so well, but now he’s in good shape and won’t be invited. “That surprised me,” said the 68-year-old.
