It’s not official, but it felt like a farewell, a nice and sincere one. The fans of the San Francisco Giants were present at the last preseason game, this Tuesday against the Athletics, to once again applaud Venezuelan Pablo Sandoval.
“El Panda”, protagonist of the three titles that San Francisco obtained between 2010 and 2014, returned to the bay with a minor league agreement and was throughout Spring Training. The team invited fans to this Tuesday’s game, hinting that it could be the Venezuelan’s last in that jersey.
Sandoval came on in the sixth inning as a defensive replacement for third baseman Matt Chapman. He had two at-bats and in the last one he sent a single to steal – once again – the applause of the fans.
He was replaced by a pinch runner and everyone knew it was the end. His fans and teammates celebrated him.

“Many things happened in my career, but I think this was one of the best moments I’ve had so far,” declared the Venezuelan, who earlier said he would go to Triple A to fulfill his contract.
Sandoval has experience of 14 MLB seasons, 11 with San Francisco. In 1,149 regular-season games with the Giants, he had 1,130 hits, including 135 home runs, and drove in 569 runs. He left an average of .285.
