K-I Star Real Estate Co., Ltd.
Selected for the 2nd World Deaf Judo Championships to be held in Kazakhstan in April
Masaki Sato, a member of the Challenged Athlete Team of KAI Star Real Estate Co., Ltd. (Headquarters/Honjo City, Saitama Prefecture, President/Representative Director/Keiji Hanawa, hereinafter referred to as the “Company”), will participate in the Saitama Prefectural Championships on Monday, February 26, 2024. I served as a special lecturer at the special needs school Omiya Deaf Academy (located at 2-68 Uetake-cho, Kita-ku, Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture, Principal: Atsushi Harada, hereinafter referred to as “Omiya Deaf Academy”).
Situation of the day
[Sato’s class]
The class taught about “disabilities” and “coexistence” based on Mr. Sato’s real experiences, including how he started judo and his rebellious period as a student. We also held a “message game,” in which participants read what the other person is saying just by moving their lips, and a “gesture game,” in which participants communicate words to the other person using only gestures without making a sound.
[Judo experience]
Mr. Sato demonstrated techniques and examples of ukemi, and after practicing mae-ukemi and ko-ukemi, the students experienced applying techniques with the support of volunteers.
Background of the event
The KAI Challenged Athlete Team is actively engaged in educational activities to raise awareness of parasports, such as holding events and trial sessions in various locations, based on the philosophy of being “Japan’s most challenging athlete team.” To date, we have held trial sessions in collaboration with local governments and educational institutions, as well as tournaments sponsored by our company, and a total of more than 1,200 people have had the opportunity to experience parasports.
This time, we held a class that incorporated the experience of Deaf Judo for students from the middle school section of Omiya Deaf Academy. The content was designed and implemented with the aim of letting people feel the joy of moving their bodies and providing an opportunity to think about their future dreams, hopes, and what they want to become.

■ What is KAI Challenged Athlete Team?
In April 2019, we launched the KAI Challenged Athlete Team, a group of para-athletes who not only overcome disabilities but also continue to challenge themselves to reach even greater heights, with the philosophy of being the most challenging athlete team in Japan.
There are currently nine members, and they are active in the following sports: “Deaf futsal,” “Deaf soccer,” “Judo for the deaf,” “Wheelchair basketball,” and “Wheelchair badminton.”
While continuing to train and compete at a high level as a top athlete, I am also involved in in-house training instructors and product development, as well as actively working to raise awareness of parasports through events and trial sessions. To date, we have held trial sessions and parasports championships mainly in Honjo City, Saitama Prefecture, in collaboration with companies, local governments, and educational institutions within and outside the prefecture, and more than 1,200 people have had the opportunity to experience parasports.
