The Problem with Warhammer 40K Operator Skins in Call of Duty: A Competitive Disadvantage?

Warhammer 40K fans have been pleased to see Operator skins from their beloved tabletop game make their way to Call of Duty. But if you use them, you could be at a huge disadvantage compared to your opponents.

MW3 and Warzone’s Warhammer 40K event is now live in the game, featuring special challenges, the popular Juggermosh 40K limited-time mode, and Operator skins. While players have praised the event, there is a pretty big problem with these cosmetic skins that can kill you during matches.

Warhammer 40k fans are happy – tryhards have a different opinion

This is because the Warhammer 40K skins have floating servo skulls that follow you around. They may look cool, but they also reveal your location, as Reddit user DrakonRax explains. We’ve all been there – hiding behind a wall because we’ve been shot, or waiting for an enemy we’ve spotted coming around the corner. Now imagine if he knew exactly where you were thanks to a floating skull poking his head above the barrier. Pretty annoying if you ask me.

Of course, for some, having a servo skull floating next to them is so cool that it doesn’t matter to them if it gives away their position. “I want my teeny skull bro,” one player wrote, while another agreed: “True. Looks tough.” Luckily you can “deactivate” the skull by choosing a different finishing move and it will stay away.

MW3 disadvantage depends on play style and mode

If you’re a run-and-gunner, it might not make a difference to you anyway because you spend your games running into your enemies’ faces as quickly as possible. However, in modes like Search and Destroy, where stealth and playing smart are important, this skin isn’t necessarily the best choice. Most casual gamers and especially Warhammer fans probably don’t care about any of this, they just want to have some fun and look cool doing it.

The prices of the bundles are a different issue, even if they are still cheap compared to Warhammer 40K tabletop figures, almost all bundles cost more than €50. That’s quite a number, but Activision, like Blizzard, is testing the pain threshold of their “whales” (people who spend a lot of money in a game) with the mount prices in Diablo 4.

If you want to have a floating skull running around with you on maps like Terminal and Favela, you still have plenty of time to buy the skins. The Warhammer 40K event ends on March 27th.
