Tirreno-Adriatico 2024: the absolute triumph of Jonas Vingegaard

Quite a day for the best team in the peloton, Visma-Lease a bike (formerly Jumbo-Visma). Less than an hour after Matteo Jorgenson’s victory in the Paris-Nice final, Jonas Vingegaard won Tirreno-Adriatico.

The Dane, double winner of the 2022 and 2023 Tour de France, stunned the race on the penultimate stage contested on Friday. This March 10, the 7th and final flat stage ended with a sprint won by the Italian Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek), already winner during the week, ahead of the Norwegian Alexander Kristoff (Uno-X). In the final ranking, Jonas Vingegaard won with more than a minute ahead of the Spaniard Juan Ayuso (UAE) and almost two ahead of the Australian Jai Hindley (Bora).

Vingegaard was therefore almost assured of winning the “Course des deux mers”, even before the start of this last stage. The Dane, winner of the last two Tours de France, had a comfortable lead of one minute and 24 seconds over the Spaniard Juan Ayuso after winning the 5th and 6th stages, the most difficult.

The leader of the Visma-Lease a bike team, wearing the blue leader’s jersey since Thursday, spent Sunday in the peloton. After his success in the Gran Camino in Spain, he has already totaled seven victories since the start of the 2024 season.
