TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen U15 Judokas Shine at West German Individual Championships

The girls and boys of the U15 had exciting battles for medals and placings at the weekend (March 2nd + 3rd, 2024) in Dormagen. The West German Individual Championship is the highest championship for the U15.
The medal count for the U15 judoka from TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen is impressive: 1 x gold, 1 x silver and 4 x bronze.

At the top of the podium in the weight class up to 46 kg was Luis Virnich from TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen. The blue belt fought a very committed tournament and was rewarded with gold.

The TSV Bayer 04 Judoka brought another three bronze medals to Leverkusen. Tjark Konrad up to 50 kg and Kostja Chakhomau up to 55 kg both decided at short notice to start a weight class higher and were still able to fight their way onto the podium with bronze. Bronze also went to Remus Möhring up to 37 kg.
Moritz Strey (- 40 kg) had a promising start in the quarterfinals. However, he was removed from the list by the judges due to an action that endangered his spine. So he was unable to win the medal he was aiming for.
Joel Jakobs (-55 kg) unfortunately withdrew from the tournament after two defeats.
Richard Zabel (-43 kg) fought his way to the semi-finals, unfortunately he had to admit defeat here, as well as in the consolation round final for the bronze medal, and finished the tournament in fifth place.

On Sunday it was the turn of the girls’ competitions. Lyska Konrad secured the silver medal in the weight class up to 33 kg. Laura Garcia Da Palma won bronze up to 57 kg. The good overall result was rounded off by Anna Evertz (- 40 kg) with 7th place and Anna Scherer (- 48 kg) with 9th place.

Overall, great successes for the U15 coached by Thomas Berg at the West German Individual Championships.

German U18 individual championship

Unfortunately, the TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen Judoka did not win any medal places at the German Individual Championships this weekend (March 2nd + 3rd, 2024) in Leipzig. Svevarika Konrad (-63 kg) qualified, Noa Lema-Lefeuvre (- 46 kg), Luca Schaff (- 55 kg) and Timo Küpper (- 66 kg).

Sveya met the later vice-German champion in her first fight and dominated the fight, unfortunately her opponent caught her and the only way left was to go through the consolation round. Here she confidently won four fights in a row and thus secured the fight for bronze. Here our judoka was again the leading athlete, but then had to give up when her opponent tried a floor technique and accept the thankless fifth place. The desired result was not achieved, but in judo sometimes fractions of a second make the difference and the next competition is already on the horizon.
On 9/10 In March, Svevarike will fight for the German U21 individual championship in Frankfurt/Oder. And the following weekend (March 16/17, 2024) she is nominated for the European Cup U18 in Porec/Croatia, where the cards will be reshuffled.

The male U18s are coached by Bernd Stutz and the female U18s by Anthony Zingg.
