Borussia Dortmund has had no chance against VfB Stuttgart so far this season. The BVB competitor has now achieved a personnel coup.

Dortmund/Stuttgart – Borussia Dortmund has already had to admit defeat to VfB Stuttgart twice this season. Once with 1:2 in the Bundesliga and also with 0:2 in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup. In the coming season, the Swabians can continue to rely on their most important man.

Twice as bitter for BVB: Dortmund-Schreck extends his contract

As the Stuttgart team announced on Friday (March 8th), VfB coach Sebastian Hoeneß extended his contract, which expires in 2025, by two more years until 2027.

The 41-year-old has held the head coaching position at BVB rivals since April 2023. In 40 games on the sidelines so far, the nephew of Bayern legend Uli Hoeneß has scored an average of 2.03 points.

BVB may also have taken a closer look at Sebastian Hoeneß

With his work at VfB Stuttgart, Sebastian Hoeneß has developed into one of the most exciting coaches in the country over the past few months. It is not without reason that the Munich native has already been linked with a return to FC Bayern. Hoeneß coached both the U19 and reserve teams there from 2017 to 2020.

Hoeneß was also loosely brought into play at BVB in the media. Edin Terzic has been criticized by the Black and Yellows for some time, but Terzic still enjoys the backing of BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke.

Another interesting coach is off the market for BVB

In addition to the VfB coach, there are two other coaches who will not be available to Borussia Dortmund in the coming season. One of them is Fabian Hürzeler, who also extended his contract with FC St. Pauli on Friday (March 8th). The “Kiezkicker” did not provide any information about the duration.

The 31-year-old was considered a possible successor to Edin Terzic among BVB fans. Nevertheless, it must be noted that there have so far been no concrete rumors about a commitment to the Westphalians.

BVB flirt Oliver Glasner also has a new job

At the end of February it was announced that Oliver Glasner, who was specifically linked to the coaching position at BVB, would henceforth coach in the Premier League. The Austrian is now on the sidelines at Crystal Palace.

Apart from Julian Nagelsmann, Hansi Flick and Joachim Löw, there are actually no longer any renowned German-speaking coaches who could take over for Terzic at BVB if he were to be fired. So it’s quite possible that Borussia are actually considering Nuri Sahin as head coach.
